What Is Waxing?
Waxing is a method of semi-permanent hair reduction that removes the hair from the root. Hair re-growth will not be seen for an extended period of time, and upon returning, hair will often have a finer texture. Repeated use of waxing methods encourages less hair re-growth over time, and is offered in hard and strip form. Almost any area can be waxed safely, from the face to the body. Treatments are designed to smooth the skin, giving you a clean look that is soft to the touch.
Pinewood Laser & Spa uses two different types of wax, allowing us to customize the area of hair removal.
Please be sure to let us know if you’re using doctor-prescribed skin care products or taking any medications, so that we may check for contraindications.

Please Note: It is recommended to shave the entire area 7-10 days before your first waxing services. Call with any questions or for more information.
Brazilian Wax FAQs
What is a Brazilian Wax Procedure?
A Brazilian wax procedure is the most effective treatment to remove hair in sensitive areas. The client will be provided a towel to drape the area as the specialist enters and exits the room. Warm wax is then applied to the targeted location and then removed, along with the unwanted hair.
Although temporary, a Brazilian wax lasts significantly longer than shaving. It will need to be repeated every 3-6 weeks, and results may vary depending upon hair type.
Our Brazilians are done in just 30-40 minutes .
Does Brazilian waxing hurt?
Along with being one of the most commonly asked questions it is also one of the most difficult to answer, since we all experience pain differently. No matter how skilled a technician, how expensive the wax, or how flexible the client, waxing will cause some level of discomfort. Any place that promises you a pain-free waxing is either lying or not performing the service correctly. When waxing is done correctly, the hair is removed by the root and this causes some level of discomfort. That being said, most clients receiving a first-time Brazilian leave feeling it was not nearly as bad as they thought it would be.
The first time is always the most uncomfortable because your hair’s roots are at their strongest. Although you cannot completely numb the discomfort, there are still some things you can do:
- Dull Your Nerves: You can take two ibuprofen about 30 minutes before your wax.
- Scrub On Down: Using a good body scrub between wax appointments will help rid your skin of dead cells that can clog your pores. Exfoliating clears your pores, allowing the hair to be pulled more easily.
- Don’t Drink A Lot Of Caffeine Or Alcohol: While having a couple glasses of wine or some shots before getting waxed sounds like a great idea, alcohol and caffeine can actually cause your skin to be more sensitive to waxing. Give yourself a couple hours after drinking coffee or alcohol before getting waxed.
- Avoid The Sun: You should avoid going tanning for 24 hours prior to waxing. Waxing freshly tanned skin can cause it to be pulled, which is not a great feeling. Tanning should also be avoided for 24 hours afterwards as well. Your skin will be more sensitive since it was exfoliated, so burning is more likely to happen.
If I have shaved the area to be waxed, how long do I have to wait to get it waxed?
If you recently shaved your bikini line, you will need to wait 7-14 days in order to have enough hair growth to wax.
How long does a Brazilian wax last?
The results of a Brazilian Wax usually last from 3 to 4 weeks, especially when performed properly.
I’m on my period. Can I get waxed?
Yes, but you do need to use a tampon. Keep in mind that we tend to be more sensitive during our period.
Is it OK to shave between wax appointments?
No, we don’t advise shaving in between. Waxing slows down and reduces hair growth while also causing the hair to grow back much thinner. This makes the hair easier to remove, thereby reducing any pain. Shaving just one time in between will negate these benefits and can further irritate follicles, which can cause ingrown hair.
How can I prevent ingrown hairs?
Begin exfoliating – gently – on a daily basis, but don’t begin exfoliation until 24 hours have passed since you had your waxing done.
How long before my wedding should I have a Brazilian wax done?
We recommend that you get a Brazilian Wax done 2-4 days prior to your wedding.
Are there any topical creams or medications that I should avoid prior to getting waxed?
Yes! Internal medication such as Accutane and topicals that include Retin -A (within the past 3 months ), accutane (within the past 6 months ),Retin-A, Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Differin, Tazorac, Avage, Strivectin, Renova,ProActive, Avita, and Benzoyl Peroxide should be avoided. All of the above mentioned can enhance skin sensitivity that could lead to lifting of the skin when removing hair.
