How does SmartLipo work?

This laser-assisted lipolysis procedure is performed using a one millimeter cannula (or tube) inserted into the skin. A laser fiber inside of the cannula delivers energy directly to fat cells, causing them to rupture and drain away as liquid. Simultaneously, tissue around the area coagulates, resulting in overall tighter skin tissue.

Am I a candidate?

The perfect candidate is in good health and of average body weight. SmartLipo is not an appropriate treatment for obesity and is not a substitute for a prudent diet, good nutrition, and regular exercise. SmartLipo is great for targeting specific areas of stubborn fat that do not respond to diet or exercise, such as love handles, thighs, hips, bottoms, upper arms, double chins and the abdomen.

What areas of the body can be treated?

SmartLipo is ideal for the neck, jawline, chin, arms, breasts, "bra fat," abdomen, "love handles," “saddle bags," inner and outer thighs and knees.

Does SmartLipo treat cellulite?

This procedure is used to eliminate fat cells in a targeted region in order to improve body shape.  While it does not specifically treat cellulite, in some cases patients report slightly decreased skin puckering and improved skin smoothness.

How does SmartLipo compare to conventional liposuction?

SmartLipo is a safer and less invasive treatment than traditional liposuction, requiring only a local anesthetic compared to a general anesthetic.  The procedure is less painful than liposuction and will result in considerably less bleeding, bruising and recovery time.  SmartLipo also produces tightening of the skin in the treated areas. Conventional liposuction is meant to remove large amounts of fat. Laser-assisted lipo is frequently a beneficial addition to traditional lipo.

How long does the SmartLipo procedure take?

The SmartLipo procedure generally takes between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the treatment area.  Post procedure you will be kept at the office for about an hour before returning home. 

Is there a recovery period?

SmartLipo is a minimally invasive procedure which usually requires only local anesthesia. Some light trauma can occur, and very few patients will need more than an occasional mild painkiller during the recovery period. A compression garment may be worn for a short period after treatment, depending on the body area treated. You’ll be able to return to work and regular activities within a few days and resume exercise after 2 weeks.  

Will SmartLipo cause scarring?

Using the latest technology, a tiny incision is made in the skin which will result in the smallest of scars.  Incision sites heal without stitches.

How many treatments are required?

Typically only one treatment is required. Patients with a larger treatment area may, however, require more than one treatment session, which will be determined during the consultation. Results can be seen within a week, with continued improvement over 3 to 6 months.

When can I expect to see results?

Results can be seen within a few weeks with continued improvement over the next 6 months. Immediately after the procedure you will be visibly smaller in size, however some swelling will occur. As with traditional liposuction, it is necessary to be patient. The full results of SmartLipo can sometimes take up to a year to be visible.  Liquefied fat will take some time to drain away from the treatment area and areas of swelling will continue to resolve. Your body has to adapt to a large shape change before you can achieve maximum results

Will the results of SmartLipo be long-term?

The treatment area will have reduced fat cells and, therefore, future weight gain will be greatly reduced in that area.
