What is the difference between BOTOX® and dermal filler injections?

BOTOX and dermal fillers are used to correct wrinkles in different ways.

BOTOX is typically used to treat the wrinkles in the upper half of the face.  Most frown lines form as a result of muscle activity below the surface.  The skin follows the contours of the underlying muscles.  BOTOX temporarily relaxes muscles so when it is injected into specific facial muscles it has the effect of relaxing the contraction of those muscles.  By smoothing out the tone of the muscles, the overlying skin is also smoothed and wrinkle lines are dramatically reduced.  BOTOX typically reduces wrinkles by 80%.

BOTOX can also be injected in the underarm as treatment for hyperhidrosis, otherwise known as excessive sweating.

Dermal fillers, such as JUVEDERM®, are injected below the skin surface, adding volume and hydration to smooth deeper wrinkles and folds in the lower face resulting in a more natural, youthful, appearance.  Read more about JUVEDERM®

BOTOX and JUVEDERM® are often used together to enhance each other and maximize the desired overall effect of restoring a more youthful and well-rested appearance to the face.

What is the procedure for scheduling an appointment for injections?

An in-office consult is required prior to injections.  At that time, a health history will be taken and your goals will be discussed.  One of our specialists will discuss the most beneficial treatment in an effort to assist you in achieving your goals.  Your injections may be administered during the consult visit or an appointment will be scheduled.

Will I see the results immediately?

With BOTOX injections, results are fully evident within one week after treatment.

How long do the injection results last?

BOTOX injections last a minimum of three months.

Are these injections covered by my insurance?

BOTOX injections are strictly voluntary cosmetic procedures and therefore not reimbursable by government or private health care insurers.
